Jeanie McKnight Guymon

I have enjoyed my careers in public relations and education, and I am honored to work as development coordinator for Higher Ground. It’s a perfect blend of my strengths and what I enjoy doing. Caring and professional mentors were put in my life to guide me through challenges, push me to aim higher and always improve my practice helping me make a difference in the lives of Tucsonans, young and old. In my public relations career I traveled the world to promote So. Arizona for Visit Tucson. I had a great time working with global media from the NY Times to MTV and Radio Kazakstan. I started a second career teaching high school just before our daughter Molly was born. I earned two education masters degrees and impacted countless high school and middle school students and families as a teacher, PBIS director and an administrator. I’m not really an awards person, but I am proud of winning the Ed Eisele University of Arizona Eller School and McGuire Entrepreneurship Award for Excellence in Education.

I like people and being part of a good cause. I try to listen well, be action oriented, always set a good example by being positive and working hard. I like being in an environment where new ideas are embraced, where it’s ok to try something new, where people are happy to work and be successful on their own terms. I believe Higher Ground is that place for me. Higher Ground’s vision and mission are spectacular and so very needed in our community.

I love being with my family, my husband Michael and our daughter Molly and our labrador dogs. We try to travel often and get to know different cultures and cities in the US. I grew up in Tucson and my whole family lives here so big family get-togethers are joyous occasions for me. I love to play tennis with my team and play pickleball with my husband. I also love cooking, and reading comedians books and mystery novels.
