Yliana Mendez

Student Support Specialist

Yliana was born and raised in Tucson and where she grew up with two hard working parents. As she grew up, her parents always taught her the importance of working hard and being a kind soul. She was raised with two older sisters whom were somewhat mother figures to her and parents who always had really strong morals, which shaped her into who she is today.

Yliana is the mother to a beautiful baby girl named Ytzel. She is the light throughout every single one of her days. Being a teen mother pushed her to want to be better and encouraged her to be apart of something bigger. She wake up every morning to the most beautiful smile and she couldn't ask for more in life. She is blessed to have an enormous support system that she is so grateful for. Thanks to my mother and father she hardly doubts her abilities to do anything.

Her sisters are both very hard working and invested in their communities. Her middle sister and her partner run an organization for the Las Vistas community and are very eager to help others and encourages the community to come together. Both my sisters inspired Yliana to work within her community and make a change for the better. She is very excited to be working with Higher Ground and help students with building their confidence and character.
